In vitro fertilization (IVF) - this is fertilization outside the body, i.e. in the laboratory or simply in vitro. For many couples artificial insemination allowed to get pregnant in those cases when no medical methods brought results.
Artificial insemination involves retrieving egg cells from a woman, fertilizing them with her husband's semen, lab monitoring of the embryos in the early stages of development with the further implantation the embryos to the uterine cavity. After this begins the development of pregnancy, no difference from pregnancy after natural conceiving.
To stimulate the ovaries, fertility preparations taken with the help of injections that are used to help produce several mature egg cells. A natural cycle usually produces only one mature egg. The pregnancy indications for the IVF procedure are much better, the more egg cells produced, the more can be fertilized.
After injections, the embryologist controls the course of induction of ovulation with ultrasound and estrogen levels in the blood for several days. Your treatment protocol can be adjusted based on the results of your ultrasound and blood test to ensure optimal results.
When the egg cells mature, they are retrieved with the help of ultrasound procedure, which is performed under light anesthesia on an outpatient basis. During the procedure, the needle is placed in the ovaries and the liquid containing the egg is removed. This procedure is performed by visualizing the follicles with an internal ultrasound probe. To avoid any discomfort, short-acting intravenous sedation is provided.
