Proper nail care for a newborn
Many newborn babies are already born with long nails. However, they need to be cut sooner or later, so that the baby does not scratch himself, and the nail plate grows properly.
When it's time to cut newborn's nails
Hands of the child are not yet coordinated, he can wave them in different directions, hitting even his own body. And sharp nails leave cuts on a delicate skin. And if the kid takes his fingers in his mouth, it can injure the gum and tongue or bring the bacteria that cause thrush.
More and more mothers dress their children in loose clothes, often wearing only one diaper, especially in the warm season. Therefore, nails need to be cut already in the hospital, if there is such a need and the plate of the nail has grown. It is not necessary to put on "anti scratch gloves" on the hands and socks on the legs only because it is terrible to cut the nails. Especially harmful are "mittens", as they interfere with tactile cognition of the world.
How to cut child's nails
- Use suitable scissors for children with rounded ends, or special children's nippers, they are miniature and just fit under the nails on a tiny finger.
- Do not cut nails to the child immediately after the bath, since the steamed nail plate is difficult to cut, it becomes soft and flexible.
- You can cut nails to a child when he sleeps, but this does not cancel the fact that you need to fix tightly its hand and each finger.
- Scissors and nippers-tweezers should be very sharp. Always clean them after the procedure and keep it so that the blades won't become blunt.
