How baby sees the world in first 12 months?

After birth - child’s organ of vision are not fully developed and continue to evolve before age 1. Dr. Ramesh Angunauelathe, who works as an eye surgeon at one of the British clinics, describes the way it happens.
Child opens its eyes in mother’s womb that is why the first thing they see is dark and light.

After birth, infants use this basic understanding of contrast, in order to form images from shapes and lines.

During first couple of weeks baby sees everything in black and white. His eyes are functioning poorly.

At 2 months, the first color that baby can distinguish is red.

Until age of 4 months, children begin to differentiate objects, located at a distance of 25 cm from their face. Child starts to coordinate movements of his arms and legs roughly the same age.

The part of a brain that is responsible for vision processing covers 1/3 part of a baby’s cerebral cortex.

Infant is colorblind, till one year of age. All because, there is a little correlation between brain receptors. Only bright colors, that stand out and contrast sharply with the rest, begin to be perceived in the first place.

By the time, when baby starts to crawl (around 9 months), the work of visual system has improved markedly: he can purposely grab things and avoid those that accidentally fell into his hand.

Child’s vision is completely formed till the age of 2 years. In order to help your child to improve his sight, as a parent you should avoid decorating nursery in pastels. Moms and dads need to wear clothes with bright and contrast prints. Also, when communicating with a child – keep a 30 cm distance.
